2008 Hall of Fame Inductees Selected

With our new selection rules in place, the Television branch has selected an eclectic group of inductees. The three-step process involves a select committee making nominations, viewing all submissions and selecting the best of the bunch in a two-tier voting system. Then, the committee's final recommendations are submitted to the entire membership who ranks each nomination and the best of each group is inducted.

In the newly combined Programs area, series, movies made for television and miniseries are combined to allow a more diverse selection of inductees. While no movies or miniseries were inducted, there were submissions in those areas. The lucky series to be inducted this year are: diner comedy Alice, sleuth drama Columbo, black-and-white cop drama Dragnet, fantasy laffer I Dream of Jeannie, HBO comedy program The Larry Sanders Show, variety drama Letters to Loretta, panel game show The Match Game, British import Monty Python's Flying Circus, puppet variety program The Muppet Show, and courtroom drama Perry Mason.

In the Acting area, we inducted the singing cowboy Gene Autry, Honeymooners buddy Art Carney, late night legend Johnny Carson and Captain James T. Kirk William Shatner.

In the Behind the Scenes Area, we welcome series creators Richard Levinson & William Link (Columbo, Mannix, Murder, She Wrote) and Sherwood Schwartz (Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch), and makeup artist Michael Westmore (MacGyver, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Enterprise).
