2007 Television Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

Today we announce these inductees into the Television Hall of Fame.

In the Series Area, the OFTA has inducted a slew of one-word series including comedies Bewitched, Roseanne, Seinfeld and Soap, and western Gunsmokelong-running news magazine 60 Minutes, classic comedies Taxi and Three's Company, time-travel drama Quantum Leap, and the first series ever to win the OFTA award for Best Comedy Series Frasier.

In the Movies and Miniseries Area, the OFTA inducts And the Band Played On, Band of Brothers and Something About Amelia.

In the Acting Area, the OFTA brings in I Love Lucy stars Desi Arnaz and Vivian Vance alongside Don Knotts and Valerie Harper.

In the Behind the Scenes Area, we welcome John Frankenheimer, Garry Marshall and Lorne Michaels.

2006 Hall of Fame Inductees Announced

The Online Film & Television Association has announced its inductees into the Hall of Fame. Each year, the organization selects five films, two actors, two actresses, two directors, two writers and/or producers, and three technicians. All of these inductees have made a lasting impression on the OFTA and on film history.

Joining the impressive ranks of the Films Area this year are Belle de Jour , The Best Years of Our Lives , Double Indemnity , How Green Was My Valley and Tokyo Story.

Moving into the Actors and Actresses section are Ellen Burstyn, Buster Keaton, Deborah Kerr and Charles Laughton.

Directors Luis Buñuel and George Cukor are now inducted into the Hall of Fame as are producer Samuel Goldwyn and writer Paddy Chayefsky.

Receiving mentions in the Technicians Area were editor Dede Allen, cinematographer Nestor Almendros and visual effects artist Dennis Muren.

Hall of Fame Inductees to Be Announced

On Tuesday, August 29, 2006, when the winners of the 10th Annual OFTA Television Awards are announced, the Television Hall of Fame inductees will be announced.

The Television Hall of Fame is broken into four categories. The first category is for Series. These are any programs that are presented in serial format from year to year. These can included scripted, informational or variety programs. Previous inductees have included The Ed Sullivan Show, M*A*S*H, The Carol Burnett Show and Star Trek. Five such programs are inducted annually from a list of nominees selected by the membership.

The second area for induction is the Motion Picture/Miniseries area. This field is for programs that often air only once in any given season. Some of the noteworthy members of this area include The Day After, Lonesome Dove, Roots and The Thorn Birds. Three entires are admitted every year from a list of selections made by the membership.

Actors and Actresses fill the third area. Anyone who performs in front of the camera for either series, motion pictures made for television or miniseries are eligible. Past inductees include Angela Lansbury, Bill Cosby, Lucille Ball and Bob Newhart. Two actors and two actresses are selected by the membership from a slate of nominees each year.

The final category is for those wonderful people who work Behind the Scenes. These can be producers, writers, directors, production designers, composers or any such related position. Some of the notable inclusions are James Burrows, Steven Bochco, Gene Roddenberry and Jim Henson. The membership selects three such individuals are chosen annually from a list of eligible nominees annually.
