Preview: Vantage Point (2008)

Poster: B+
Review:
We've seen it all before, but somehow this poster seems more interesting and stylish. I despise the black-and-white style, but this design, with the fractured images in perfect squared shapes, is pleasing to the eye.
Trailer: B-
Review:
Even when a potentially interesting plot is watered down by an trailer that's too fancy for its own good, you can't help but hold out hope for something more interesting. Although the fractured, multi-version storytelling technique has been pushed to the big screen in the past, it has never quite been successful. The trailer makes the film look more like a big screen version of the television show The Nine minus one character and a cohesive, slow-reveal environment.
Oscar Prospects:
If the film weren't scheduled for a February release in 2008, you might inadvertently mistake the premise as an Oscar-calibre one. Thankfully, though, the frivolousness is apparent and the audience dutifully forewarned.
