Preview: Smart People (2008)

Poster: C-; C

Review:

Green's certainly a dominant color here, but why? At least with the poster for Strange Wilderness, it made sense that it was green. This shade of lime is not particularly engaging and the simplistic title design is unexceptional.

This poster removes a layer of simplicity the first possessed in spades. This one at least gives us a better idea of the casting, but maintains the overly simplified background colors and obvious use of Scrabble tiles for the title.

Trailer: C+

Review:

The film's approach to comedy is an amalgam of several independent projects that have been released in the past couple of years. There's very little emotional engagement one can get from the preview itself and Ellen Page looks like she's been typecast as a snippy, smarter-than-she-should-be teen.

Oscar Prospects:

With such an early release, I don't see this film as being a contender unless it sweeps critics off their feet and the film is a box office smash.

Release Date:

April 11, 2008
