Preview: Redbelt (2008)

Poster: C; D

Review:

What was originally title-less now has a title. While it now makes more sense as a poster, it's hardly anything exceptional or exciting, but it does say a lot about the film's subject per the new trailer.

This is just a scene from the film masquerading as a placeholder. Unlike other such works this year, there is no title to associate it with the film, which is not very helpful (ORIGINAL MISSING)

Trailer: C

Review:

The film looks like an unhappy blend of Erin Brockovich, Rocky and Fight Club. That combination will turn off a number of viewers, but those interested in seeing fight violence will probably tune in anyway because they've probably never seen Erin Brockovich and wouldn't make the connection anyway.

This new trailer takes the film in an entirely new direction. It also gives it a little more intrigue by adding the words "David Mamet". It certainly looks like a better film than the first, though with Tim Allen seemingly in the comic-turned-serious-actor role that Steve Martin carried off so well in The Spanish Prisoner, I'm afraid the films may be too similar in scope.

Oscar Prospects:

I can't see this film earning Oscar attention. Fight Club, which the film bares the most resemblance to, didn't even get nominated in the one category it most deserved: Editing.
