Preview: The Fall (2008)

Poster: B

Review:

It fits nearly perfectly with the film's visual style, but it is relatively inexpressive. Visual style must be accompanied by substance and, although I've seen the trailer, I don't see much of the film's substance in this poster, colorful and visually impressive as it is.

Trailer: A

Review:

What an interesting preview. This trailer is visually stimulating to a degree that few films have been. One of the things I love about these kinds of films is how they manaage to create such an interesting and vibrant world filled with color and intrigue. While there's not a lot of plot in the preview, there's enough to entice the most curious viewer.

Oscar Prospects:

Tarsem Singh's first film, The Cell wasn't recognized in the Art Direction or Costume Design categories as might have been expected. It received its only Oscar nom for Best Makeup. I don't know if that will duplicate, but the look of the film suggetss it should contend, but with the traditionalist nature of the Academy's Art and Costume branches, I'm not sure it will figure in even if it should.
