Why anyone thought this poster idea was workable, I'll never understand, but it's obnoxious and irritating to an extreme. It's fanciful approach to Katherine Heigl wearing a "dress" seems more of an add-on than an exemplification of the plot and is clearly designed to make people remember the title of the film, which the preview is far more likely to do.
I must admit that they put some very funny moments in the preview. This film will carry the unfair moniker of "date movie" when it releases, so its appeal to women is evident. Heigl does have a certain charm that helped translate to her Emmy win for Grey's Anatomy. However, the phrase "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" may be too apropos as the film isn't likely to become a breakout success, unless Heigl's name brings in an untold audience for this type of film.
Launching in January, it's highly improbable this film will even be remembered at Oscar time. The genre also isn't easily identifiable with the type of films the Academy recognizes.
I have not seen this film.
