Preview: Chapter 27 (2008)

Poster: C

Review:

This poster is a bit disconcerting, but then again, so was the man depicted. While it's important to make the film about Mark David Chapman, making his mug the only prominent part of the poster is a bit deceptive. Few people are going to immediately know the subject of the film, so the only cinemagoers likely to be enticed are those who are familiar with Jared Leto and recognize how much weight he added for the role and are curious to see how much else he put into the part.

Trailer: B

Review:

Drawn mysteriously to films about serial killers, it's interesting to think that this film about Mark David Chapman, the guy who killed John Lennon, could share some similarities to those films. His obsessive fascination with a young Jodie Foster is hinted at in the trailer, which only makes it more interesting. Another point in its favor is that chameleon Jared Leto has put on a sizable amount of weight for the film, which is a long cry from the large amount of weight he lost for Requiem for a Dream.

Oscar Prospects:

I don't know if this will be Oscar material. The early release will probably doom it, but it would be nice to see Jared Leto in contention for something after his great rise to success in Requiem for a Dream.
