Preview: Balls of Fury (2007)

Poster: D+; C+

Review:

Any poster that solely uses its title as a poster has to be a sign that they haven't come up with an official one yet. Since this film doesn't release until September, I wouldn't doubt if that's the case. The flame behind the ball "of" merits the film an insignificant increase over my standard grade for this kind of poster, because it accentuates the ping pong ball and is at least moderately thematic.; Much like the new trailer, the new poster takes the double entendres to an all new low. Although it's more creative than the first, this second one is a bit too cocky.

Review:

It's got the makings of a Nacho Libre without the stylings of Jack Black. The film looks like a horrendous blend of martial arts and sports films. Though, it does appear all the funny stuff is in the preview.which is problematic.; Christopher Walken hams up another pic as his hipness begins to verge on annoyance. While many may see him in the film and think it's going to be hysterical, I continue to see little more than a Nacho Libre type farce which may appeal to some, but won't to all.

Oscar Prospects:

No big stars. Obnoxious comedy. That finishes nailing up its coffin.
