Preview: Arctic Tale (2007)

Review:

As banal and lifeless as the trailer except without the irritating voice-over. This is the kind of poster that easily entices children in, highlighting the cuter protagonist in the front. However, I'll give the creators credit for using the space beneath the larger bear's head to frame the film's other leading characters.

Review:

Disney went out of its way to purport this film as the next March of the Penguins. However, the trailer gives a different indication. Stuck with the vocal talents of Queen Latifah as narrator, the film looks more like a Disney animated feature than it does a documentary. Putting funny words to the actions of the subjects and editing the trailer to make those actions seem to fit into human ideals of humor creates a desperate and unfunny Tale.

Oscar Prospects:

It's hard to imagine the Academy running to the newest nature documentary to give it an Oscar. From this trailer, it's hard to conceive that the Academy would even feel the need of nominating it. Sure, the feature has cute and cuddly critters, but Latifah is no Morgan Freeman.
