With the new layout of the front page of this site, certain areas of this page will no longer be updated. I will no longer be posting Sales and Rentals ranking. I've gone back and forth on this aspect over the years and while it had become increasingly easy for me to track them lately (wish my spreadsheet), I just felt that they would get lost in the shuffle and one less thing to update every week does make things easier. Other than that, the information in the sidebar at the right will continue to be updated each week as usual. The DVD Report pages above will likewise be continuously updated. However, all "Updates" (with one exception) will be posted to the front page of the site and archived there. The aforementioned exception is the New Releases list, which will continue to be updated and the past lists being stored below.

-Wesley Lovell (November 17, 2009)
Old is good as new on CD this week.
-Peter Patrick (November 10, 2009)
This is the season of the blockbusters. Following up Transformer 2's top spot debut is Ice Age.
-Wesley Lovell (November 10, 2009)
Another shocking top spot finish for Transformers 2.
-Wesley Lovell (November 10, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (November 10, 2009)
Christmas comes early to Blu-ray while crime reigns supreme in box sets.
-Peter Patrick (November 3, 2009)
I'm so surprised Transformers 2 topped the chart. Shocking, I say.
-Wesley Lovell (November 3, 2009)
It's like home video owners felt the same way as home video renters. Needless to say, Will Farrell's failure is modestly satisfying.
-Wesley Lovell (November 3, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (November 3, 2009)
Something new, something old and something Blu.
-Peter Patrick (October 27, 2009)
Two new releases this week fought for the top spot and the romcom beat out the dumbcom. The Proposal proved that its box office meant more than the box office for Land of the Lost.
-Wesley Lovell (October 27, 2009)
A second week at the top makes for a harsh first week for the box office dud Year One.
-Wesley Lovell (October 27, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (October 27, 2009)
Forget it, Jake, it's Chinatown.
-Peter Patrick (October 20, 2009)
At least Year One has somewhere it can succeed. After crashing and burning at the box office, the prehistoric "road trip" comedy takes the top spot on the rental chart.
-Wesley Lovell (October 20, 2009)
Either househoulds are weary of buying every special edition that comes out each year for old films or Monsters vs. Aliens was really that popular. It managed to top the 70th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz on the sales chart.
-Wesley Lovell (October 20, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (October 20, 2009)
Snow White, Miracle on 34th Street and more.
-Peter Patrick (October 13, 2009)
Kids bolster this week's numbers with the release of Monsters vs. Aliens at the top of the rentals chart.
-Wesley Lovell (October 13, 2009)
Hugh Jackman trumps Matthew McConaughey as Ghosts of Girlfriends Past fails to break the Wolverine's hold on the top of the sales chart.
-Wesley Lovell (October 13, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (October 13, 2009)
Walking down memory lane with The Wizard of Oz.
-Peter Patrick (October 6, 2009)
The romcom Ghosts of Girlfriends Past topples X-Men on the rental chart. But can it make a similar transition to the sales chart?
-Wesley Lovell (October 6, 2009)
It's no surprise that X-Men: Origins: Wolverine topped the sales chart or that the latest Barbie video came in second.
-Wesley Lovell (October 6, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (October 6, 2009)
New TV and old movies now on DVD.
-Peter Patrick (September 29, 2009)
After two weeks at number one, the non-surprising conclusion of this week's race is that X-Men: Origins: Wolverine topped the list.
-Wesley Lovell (September 29, 2009)
State of Play drops dramatically this week, falling to #6 while the first TV show I can remember tops the list: The Office (5).
-Wesley Lovell (September 29, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (September 29, 2009)
Fame x3, Wayne x8 and Newman x13.
-Peter Patrick (September 22, 2009)
There were no updates at the time of posting. Above is the reconstruction of the missing list.
-Wesley Lovell (September 22, 2009)
Carryovers are fun. State of Play tops the sales chart. Heroes, despite losing ground in the ratings and shedding fans like a snake's skin, still managed to debut at number 2.
-Wesley Lovell (September 22, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (September 22, 2009)
New DVDs galore from the French at their best to Disney at its worst.
-Peter Patrick (September 15, 2009)
Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck top this week's rental chart with little surprise. The rest of the top 10 is similarly uneventful.
-Wesley Lovell (September 15, 2009)
And Hannah Montana sticks the top for a second week and Fighting manages to outdo Duplicity.
-Wesley Lovell (September 15, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (September 15, 2009)
Musings on a dozen new DVD releases.
-Peter Patrick (September 8, 2009)
Clive Owen and Julia Roberts bring their romantic film Duplicity to the top of the rental charts besting Fighting.
-Wesley Lovell (September 8, 2009)
As I suggested last week, Hannah Montana: The Movie was the top seller this week largely because those who plan to own don't rent. The Last House on the Left came in second while a series of new TV series releases filled up most of the new spots in the top 10, including a boffo debut of Dexter: Season 3 at #3.
-Wesley Lovell (September 8, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (September 8, 2009)
This week on DVD: movies or TV, take your pick.
-Peter Patrick (September 1, 2009)
Why would you rent a movie you intend to buy? That is the only explanation for Hannah Montana to open a distant fourth while The Last House on the Left opens on top. This position will be reversed when the sales numbers are revealed.
-Wesley Lovell (September 1, 2009)
And this is the result I expected on the rentals chart last week. 17 Again dominates the tween market leaving I Love You, Man in the dust.
-Wesley Lovell (September 1, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (September 1, 2009)
Comedy and drama both old and new this week.
-Peter Patrick (August 25, 2009)
The surprise here is that the sophomoric comedy I Love You, Man beat out the teen situational comedy, one led by a former High School Musical alum. These top positions may reverse on the sales chart, but it's certainly of note.
-Wesley Lovell (August 25, 2009)
A result much more in line with my expectations. Apparently parents don't rent much anymore, but they do buy outright propelling Race to Witch Mountain ahead of Obsessed to top the sales chart. Meanwhile, it's such a dull week for releases that three films (positions 8, 9 and 10) are filled with DVD releases from 2005.
-Wesley Lovell (August 25, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (August 25, 2009)
The new and the old among new DVD releases.
-Peter Patrick (August 18, 2009)
The surprise here is that Race to Witch Mountain has failed the family film pattern and come in second to stalker flick Obsessed.
-Wesley Lovell (August 18, 2009)
Knocking Watchmen off the top of the sales chart was fairly quick considering it was surmounted by Fast & Furious, hardly a thinkable conclusion considering their respective box office takes.
-Wesley Lovell (August 18, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (August 18, 2009)
17 great films still missing on DVD.
-Peter Patrick (August 11, 2009)
One teen fanboy movie was supplanted by another. Fast & Furious toppled Watchmen for the rental chart crown.
-Wesley Lovell (August 11, 2009)
Carrying over to the sale chart, Watchmen leads a lackluster list with plenty of TV series, which indicates either popularity among the shows or a weak week.
-Wesley Lovell (August 11, 2009)
-Wesley Lovell (August 11, 2009)
A little something that's new and a lot that's old but still good among this week's DVD releases.
-Peter Patrick (August 4, 2009)
Like no one could see that coming. A modest hit earlier this year, Watchmen proved undefeatable in its Rentals debut. I fully expect that result to carry through to the sales chart as well.
-Wesley Lovell (August 4, 2009)
Knowing was not able to hold the top of the sales chart for a second week like it did the rentals, so The Haunting in Connecticut claims the crown. The rest seem to have just shifted down with the previous installments of recent blockbusters surge back into the Top 10 (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Transformers).
